White Hot Summer

It's a good thing weather in Chicago is so crazy. I mean, seriously, what do people in southern California make small talk about? "Well, another really nice day out." "Yep, perfect yet again." "*crickets*"
We've got all kinds of weather to complain about here - how cold it gets in the winter, how much snow is on the ground, that time when there was a snow storm with thunder, how rainy the spring can be, how dry the spring can be, how hot and humid it is in the summer, how annoying it is that it's June and it's still only 50 degrees out. I feel like a hush falls over the city when it's 70 degrees and sunny, with a cool breeze so you don't get all sweaty; it's like we're all holding our breath, waiting for the weather to break so that we have something to bitch about again.
The first day of summer is Sunday, and it seems like it could be a pretty hot one. This year I'm actually looking forward to heading out to the beach. It's funny, because I've never really been much of a beach person - sunburns and sand up my ass crack, what a treat - but for some reason I've found myself thinking a lot about dozing in the sand or going for a swim in the chilly waters of Lake Michigan.

Can you tell that what I really want is a white swimsuit? I've already got my leopard print bikini from H&M, but I might have to track down a cute, white one piece so that I can mix things up.

  1. I was never a beach person when I was younger because I was super self conscious. But when I got older and stopped caring what people thought I learned to enjoy it much more lol. But I do wish I could look that perfect at the beach like all the ladies in these photos haha. :)

    1. I'm glad to hear you got over the self-consciousness - I could still stand to work on that sometimes. And I know I wish I could look like the movie stars on the beach, but I think my favorite photo is the first one; they look so normal and beautiful and happy.

  2. Ive never been a beach person, I don't have the patience plus I burn so easily. I like to go out adventuring and seeing things. Thats why Ive only been on one cruise but I feel no desire to really ever do it again (unless its an Alaskan cruise I hear those are amazingly gorgeous). I just can't sit still and I hate sweating while lying out. Ok anyways enough of my complaining. I love what you wrote, I seriously look forward to reading your blog it either makes me laugh or makes me think. Somehow I can never get my words across well on my blog so good thing I put a lot of pictures ;) A classic one piece white swimsuit sounds fabulous! If I looked as good as all the ladies above then Id be dying to go to the beach also. I agree about the weather in Chicago, the thunder during the snowstorm was crazy!

    1. I'm usually with you about adventuring and getting out and seeing things, but I think after the insane winter that we had all I want to do is be warm and happy and lazy.
But thank you so much for saying such a sweet thing about my blog! I'm really happy to hear that you enjoy reading it, that totally made my day. I really enjoy checking out your blog as well - you always have such cute, well put together outfits.

  3. Gorgeous examples of vintage white swimsuits. There is a certain appealing, unmistakable air of elegance to them that is so timeless and beautiful. The site Unique Vintage (love them to bits, but have never ordered - one day, I hope!) has some really darling solid white one pieces that aren't too badly priced. I was eyeing a ruched white there not too long ago that I think really fits the bill of what you may be after.

    1. I checked out the site (which I, too, have checked out several times but never purchased from) and found the suit you mentioned. You're right, it is so close to the one in the last photo! I wouldn't normally spend that much on a swimsuit, but it's just too die for, I might have to splurge
